Trails of “Monte Cofano” Nature Reserve

These trails are of great interest and beauty and offer breathtaking views of the sea and of the steep mountain.
In particular the tour of the promontory, between Cala Bukuto, the beach of Cornino on the western side and the Tower of the Tonnara (tuna trap) of Tono on the eastern side, is a route suitable for everyone, which excites all visitors for particular glimpses, the charm of nature and many elements of interest.

Amongst the attractions there are the “S. Giovanni (St. John)” watchtower, dating back to the 16th century, a prehistoric cave, votive niches and chapels, the characteristic Tower of the Tuna trap, with unusual concave walls, where nearby traces of an ancient tuna trap and tubs carved into the rock, dating back to Roman times, can be seen.

From there visitors can walk back to Cala Bukuto, through a path recently restored, which goes over the low cleft of the promontory, crossing on the ridge the Baglio (typical rural building) of Cofano, from where the path to reach the peak of the mountain branches out (about 2 hours), a must even for many locals that every year climb its rocks through a not excessively steep path.
