Marsala boasts museums of considerable importance and archeology and painting laboratories.
The “Baglio Anselmi“ Regional Archaeological Museum houses finds from the ancient Lilibeo, including a beautiful statue of Venus Callipige and the interesting wreck of a Punic ship found in 971 near Punta Scario, this shipwreck dates back to the middle of the III. century BC coinciding with the battle of the Egadi (241 BC).
The slender lines and the bottom of the hull identify it as a rowing combat ship, with about 68 oarsmen. Of it remain the stern and the side. The guidelines and signs of the Phoenician-Punic alphabet, engraved and painted on the planking, made it possible to learn about the shipbuilding technique of the Punic workers.
