{"id":2936,"date":"2021-10-11T09:13:03","date_gmt":"2021-10-11T09:13:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.itineraridelgustotrapani.it\/uncategorized\/senate-palace\/"},"modified":"2021-10-11T09:13:03","modified_gmt":"2021-10-11T09:13:03","slug":"senate-palace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.itineraridelgustotrapani.it\/en\/uncategorized\/senate-palace\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate Palace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Located at the spot where via Torrearsa\u00a0 (formerly \u2018via degli Scultori\u2019 ie Sculptors\u2019 street) intersects with\u00a0 Corso Vittorio Emanuele (former \u2018Rua Grande\u2019), the\u00a0<strong>Senate Palace<\/strong>\u00a0was built on the site of the ancient \u2018<strong>Loggia dei Pisani<\/strong>\u2019, which is why, even today , the space in front is called the Loggia.<\/p>\n<p>Its origins date back to the 15th century but its radical restoration took place in the second half of the 17th century.<\/p>\n<p>Its fa\u00e7ade, completed in the early 18th\u00a0 century, was built at the expense of Knight Hospitaller Giacomo Cavarretta. It was designed by architect Andrea Palma who was obliged to respect the width of Rua Grande- of which the baroque fa\u00e7ade was going to be the backdrop.<\/p>\n<p>It spreads over three levels: the uppermost houses three niches with statues of the <em><strong>Madonna di Trapani<\/strong><\/em> (in the middle), <em><strong>St. Albert<\/strong><\/em>, a local saint, and <em><strong>St. John<\/strong><\/em> the Baptist (on the sides) sculpted by Giuseppe Nolfo\u00a0 between 1701 and 1702.<\/p>\n<p>The two elements at roof level containing a clock and a calendar, on the sides of the royal eagle, were added in 1827.<br \/>\nAdjoining the palace is the former \u2018Porta Oscura\u2019 (litt.
