{"id":2912,"date":"2021-10-11T08:36:55","date_gmt":"2021-10-11T08:36:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.itineraridelgustotrapani.it\/uncategorized\/molino-excelsior\/"},"modified":"2021-10-11T08:36:55","modified_gmt":"2021-10-11T08:36:55","slug":"molino-excelsior","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.itineraridelgustotrapani.it\/en\/uncategorized\/molino-excelsior\/","title":{"rendered":"Molino Excelsior"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is a significant <strong>record of industrial archeology<\/strong>, interesting for both its machinery which still exists within and its early 20th century architectural structure with decorative motifs of the Art Nouveau style.<\/p>\n<p>The fa\u00e7ade with simple lines, broken only by the series of arched windows, is enhanced by an arched pediment containing the sign \u2018<strong>Molino Excelsior<\/strong>\u2019 and a relief depicting the <strong>goddess Ceres<\/strong> on a cart being pulled by an eagle, with the motto \u201c<em>Industriousness overpasses mountains<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>factory<\/strong>, designed for grinding grain, was founded in 1904 by Vincenzo Gervasi; the machinery in cast iron, steel and larch, provided by the Swiss Italian company \u201cBuhler Brothers\u201d which was also responsible for the plant design, was driven by a combustive gas engine.<\/p>\n<p>The production cycle was active until the early 60\u2019s of the last century.
