{"id":2900,"date":"2021-10-11T08:13:21","date_gmt":"2021-10-11T08:13:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.itineraridelgustotrapani.it\/uncategorized\/celebration-of-our-lady-of-custonaci-and-disembarkment\/"},"modified":"2021-10-11T08:13:21","modified_gmt":"2021-10-11T08:13:21","slug":"celebration-of-our-lady-of-custonaci-and-disembarkment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.itineraridelgustotrapani.it\/en\/uncategorized\/celebration-of-our-lady-of-custonaci-and-disembarkment\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebration of \u2018Our Lady of Custonaci\u2019 and Disembarkment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is a strong bond between the people in the area surrounding Erice and \u2018<strong>Our Lady of Custonaci<\/strong>\u2019,\u00a0 her being patron to numerous other townships that once belonged to the municipality of Erice.<\/p>\n<p>The festivities in her honour take place the <strong>last week of August<\/strong>, beginning on Sunday and ending on Wednesday with a solemn procession for the painting of the Madonna through the town streets.<\/p>\n<p>According to legend, a French ship landed in the splendid <strong>cove of Bukut\u00f2<\/strong> having survived shipwreck with the precious cargo of the \u201cOur Lady of Custonaci\u201d painting that is now venerated in the town shrine.<br \/>\nIn memory of this legend, during the celebrations of the \u201c<strong>Madonna di Custonaci on the last Monday of August<\/strong>\u201d there is a re-enactment of this event.
